Little Bear was waiting for us at a Jack In The Box outside of Dallas. The breeder was kind enough to meet us there to save us another 2 hour drive beyond the three and half it had already had taken from Houston. I was happy to make the exchange there.
Taking little Bear, our new Maltese puppy, in my arms, cooing as he nuzzled my neck shivering, I handed over an envelope of cash. In return his kind breeder gave us a bag filled with goodies, his papers and a lovely fluffy blanket that we’ve since put to very good use.
Home
We made it home late afternoon. Bear napped most of the way beneath his blanket. We were pleasantly surprised that he wasn’t whining, seeming to take the long car ride in stride. Overall, he seems to be even tempered with a playful nature. Mr. Abraham and Ms. Lilah greeted us at the door with mixed reactions to the new addition to our family.
Ms. Lilah is not happy about Bear. Quickly dismissing him, she perches on the couch watching him cautiously. I’m surprised. I thought she would be the adaptable one. Instead Mr. Abraham, the high strung dude, has become the maternal one, letting Bear tackle his tail without a snip and even checking on the little guy when he’s napping. It’s been an adjustment for everyone but we’re getting there. I’m grateful my son came home to help with Bear.
Endless in and out for potty training, which overall has been pretty successful, and lots of sitting on the floor with toys we’ve had a pretty good 48 hours together. To be honest, I’m tired. Puppies, like babies, take lots of care and lots of patience. I just passed Bear off to my kid for a bit so I can give Ms. Lilah some TLC and rest a bit.
Sending you love and happiness.
