Day 6 of 7 counting down to Christmas with 7 days of creative gift giving continues with holiday decorated sugar cookies. Or, as Miss R likes to call them, Santa cookies.
To be frank, I find decorating sugar cookies a bit of a challenge. I’m by far a novice! But this year I took a cookie decorating class with a girlfriend. As a matter of fact I’m taking a 2.0 class to give myself a bit more practice with the upside I get to visit with my fabulous girlfriend too. Which prompted today’s post.
No matter how old or young there’s something heart warming about receiving holiday decorated sugar cookies. I remember one Christmas Miss R convinced me to make chocolate chip cookies which she cut out into shapes and decorated to give away. I was a skeptic but they were adorable, especially as she decorated them all by herself. We took the individually wrapped cookies to a family Christmas Eve party where she presented a cookie to everyone basking in a holiday glow of Christmas gifting done right.
From simple sugar sprinkles to elaborate piping your happy gift recipient will love a Christmas Sugar cookie.
My favorite rolled sugar cookie recipe that has been my go to is from an old Ideals Holiday Magazine that was my mother’s (sharing the 2018 version). It’s a basic sugar cookie recipe which isn’t available online or I’d share the link with you. But use your favorite cookie recipe that makes you happy.
The only tip I can give you in icing your cookies is patience. Give yourself enough time to pipe and dry your cookies in layers. Add some holiday sparkle with colored sugar too. You can never go wrong with sparkle!
