Your Best Holiday Table and Tips to Set It

November is here leaving little doubt that the holidays are fast approaching. From early Black Friday ads to store shelves filled with Christmas decorations it’s hard to forget that holiday entertainjng  around the corner.  And we haven’t even made it to Thanksgiving yet!

Are you ready?

I’m excited to share the holidays at the R&R Bungalow and that means setting a pretty table. I’m also excited for a new holiday place setting for our new table, but also in a bit of a delima since I’m not quite sure in which direction to go. Coastal Christmas, traditional reds and plaids, modern glam?

Mmmmm what to do?

Are you traditional when it comes to table settings or avant-garde?

Add a bit of whimsy with these plates from Anthropology

I enjoy a bit of whimsy. I love the unexpected which evokes childish delight and a bit of silliness.  After all isn’t that what the holidays are all about? Saw these plates at Anthropology, the coastal blue and magical unicorn inspiring visions of blues with hints of sandy rustic twine and shells. Almost too perfectly beachy.

My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that? – Bob Hope

Who doesn’t love the 12 days of Christmas? This Is such a cute set from Horchow. Could be a possibility. Paired with traditional reds and plaids this would be a playful addition from breakfast to dinner.

This traditional set will give your table an elegant flair. Beautiful, huh?

So which way am I leaning? I’m still undecided but will let you know when I land on the perfect place setting that calls my name.

From me to you; Tips to set a pretty table

Maybe you already have the perfect place settings or maybe like me you’re still looking, but here’s a few tips on how to set a table.

  • Only put out what you are going to use. No soup? Then skip the soup spoon and bowl. Same goes for the salad fork and plate if you aren’t serving salad.
  • Use the FORKS method by Emily Post for setting flatware beginning on the left: f for fork, o for plate, skip the r, k for knife and s for spoon.
  • Set the water glass and wine glass above the knife about an inch apart.
  • Cloth napkins tied with a festive ribbon placed on the salad plate adds a festive touch.
  • You can never go wrong with flowers arranged in a shallow vase with a bit of fragrant evergreen as a center piece. Add candles for a bit of sparkle.

Sending you love and happiness ❤️
