Feng Shui Beauty @ 51

Did you know that Feng Shui means wind and water? I didn’t. At least not until I sat draped in a black apron, in a chair, in front of Billy Yamaguchi, famous celebrity hair stylist, as he explained the art of feng shui, artfully breaking down my energy profile.

Turning 51

My longest relationship was with my beautifully talented stylist in Alaska. For over 15 years she artfully styled my hair.

I’m still grieving.

AnyHOO, moving to Texas meant the heartache of being set adrift without any idea of what to do with my hair. I dipped my toe into the water but had yet found the spark to rekindle a new relationship with a stylist in Houston. And trust me, my hair was screaming for attention.

Google to the rescue

Letting my fingers do the walking, I discovered an article about Lake Austin Spa Resort on google hosting events and special events. The more I read the more I knew I wanted to make an appointment at the spa for a treatment. But then I saw that Billy Yamaguchi was visiting and taking appointments.

Sign me up!

The reviews were phenomenal and I’m fascinated by energy studies in all forms. I didn’t hesitate to book an appointment but I couldn’t help wonder what my energy would be saying when I got there. Mmmmm

Hello, Austin

Austin sits a little over 2 hours away from Houston. The Sunday drive turned out to be stunning. It was an easy, scenic drive on the interstate but the closer I got the more fluttery the butterflies got in my tummy. I had no idea what was in store. And this was my hair I was putting into a strangers hand.

Not knowing what to expect, I was thrilled with how it all turned out. I was nervous at first but Billy and Michelle made me feel right at home. They were both gracious and warm and chatty… it felt like walking into a Steel Magnolia’s movie set. Several ladies greeted me, they were long time clients, and happy to share. The small vintage salon had a whopping 3 chairs that led to an intimate, magical vibe filled with lots of laughter and shared stories.

I loved it.

Before we started Michelle gave me a few questions to answer to assist Billing with identifying my Feng Shui beauty profile. After attempting to answer a few questions, my purple pen frozen above the paper, Billy rescued my indecisiveness, gently breaking down my energy profile with a black marker on the mirror in quick, bold strokes. He was kind. And direct.

I’m still digesting the lesson. He was insightful. And spot on. His probing questions resonating with me still. Sooo much to think about!

Fire 🔥 times 2

Fire showed up twice meaning I’m open. But also needing to find balance with water. Bringing inner and outer beauty in harmony is a moving balancing effort. One that I’m not the greatest at. I’m hoping with Billy I may have found a guide to help me on this journey of self discovery.

By the end of the appointment I felt like I had more than just a new cut and color. I honestly felt like I had just made some wonderful new friends. The hair was just a bonus. Guess this just may be the start of a beautiful friendship.

Sending you love and happiness.

  1. This is fabulous! I totally relate. As I age I want to keep an edge and look sassy, or feel sassy, but figuring out my hair is often a challenge. My stylist, who is also one of my closest friends, sold her salon. She is still willing to pull me out of my rut from time to time, but I don’t like to abuse that treat. LOVE your new color and cut… which is not new anymore, but so flattering! Really glad your Gratitude post sent me here. 🙂 Happy New Year!

  2. Congrats! 51 is a challenging year – so many struggles with beauty questions. Glad you found a place with answers you were looking for!

    1. Thank you for understanding. Still trying new ideas on like an old dress that doesn’t quite fit. Let’s see how it goes. 🙄😊
