Turning 51

It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over and that means another birthday, school is back in session and fall is softly rounding the corner. I’m sure you noticed that I stepped away from social media just a bit. It’s easy to get caught up in screen time, ignoring what’s happening in the real world. I needed a minute to enjoy the time exploring my summer without the additional pressure of posting.

3 things I’ve learned this year

As I step into this new year I wanted to share a bit of what I learned this last year. I started this blog with no rhyme or reason or focus. It’s a small, microscopic blip in a giant virtual ecosystem that has been incredibly rewarding but also incredibly eye opening too.

1. Boundaries

Social media trolls ruin lives.

Because it’s posted on Facebook or Twitter doesn’t mean it’s true. Some people are cruel and spiteful labeling a person or group without knowing the full story. This cruelty ruins lives. It reaches into real world lives causing destruction. I’ve seen it this year up front and personal and it heart sickens me the ugliness I’ve witnessed and the forced precautions I’ve had to take on tightening security measures.

A little word of advice; Be kind. If you wouldn’t say it in person, then don’t post poison.

2. Taking time off does the heart and body a world of good.

Balancing life can be tricky but, trust me, it’s worth it. Taking time out to fully participate with the people you love is worth far more than getting likes or smiley faces. Put the phone down at dinner and pay attention to the love sitting across from you. Stop documenting and start making memories.

3. Connecting

Last but not least, making connections both online and in person, opens up the world in ways I had never expected. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have virtually met and followed AMAZING talented people in this world-wide blogging community…Thank you to everyone who has made this last year so blessed and awe-inspiring. I can’t wait to see what opens up in the next 365 days.

Sending you love and happiness.

  1. Aw, great minds think alike! Only, on my post I ranted today, and didn’t sound quite so eloquent on my lessons. You’re a beautiful and kind person, and positive – you’re going to rock 51 and with these lessons you’ve learned, you WILL enjoy every moment of it! Happy Birthday!!

Share your thoughts...always happy to hear from you!
