This year the 4th is on a Wednesday which gave me the perfect excuse to take a few days off to spend with family at the beach. I booked a 2 bedroom bungalow, a few blocks from the beach last month. I should have known rain would blow in for the day since every time I head to Galveston it rains. But rain or shine the long weekend awaits!
In preparation for spending a few days at the beach there are a few must have supplies to keep on hand for this sun sensitive lady. Don’t get me wrong – I absolutely love the sun. However my fair skin burns, turning bright red in a matter of minutes leaving me a wreck. And that is absolutely no fun.
Sunscreen is a friend of mine
A few summers ago a dear friend turned me on to Neutrogena Ultra Sheer sunscreen. I’ve used it ever since. This sheer mist sunscreen is light but gives me the protection I need. But even with 100spf I’m still reaching for a few other sun protection items.
Beach Hats
I’ve never been a hat person. I’m petite, with a funny shaped head and honestly have never thought I looked good wearing hats. But moving to a warmer climate I’ve put my vanity aside reaching for a hat if I have to be in the sun for any length of time. Plus I’ve discovered some seriously cute hats to play with. Gotta love that!
UV Protection Tops
When I was in Colorado my wonderful girl loaned me one of her Lands End UV Protection Tees. I instantly fell in love! The long sleeve shirt was light enough to wear in the midday sun without baking. The ultra soft shirts come in a variety of colors and prints and for around 30 dollars you can’t beat the stylish protection.
Use protection
No matter what you are doing for the 4th or when you get out to enjoy the long summer days don’t forget to add a bit of protection. Sun burns aren’t any fun. Plus the long term damage to your beautiful self is something your future self doesn’t want to endure. Be kind to yourself and don’t forget your kiddos. Apply sunscreen and repeat as necessary. Your future self will thank you.
Sending you love and happiness.
❤️
I’m so glad you explained those shirts! I saw one when I was shopping for a swimsuit, and thought “that’s gotta be hot to wear!” Enjoy your holiday celebration! Stay cool! xx
LoL – glad I could help… believe it or not they work! Happy 4th!
