Hellooo
Can you hear that? Las Vegas is calling.
This gal is ready for an escape, some grownup fun, and a bit of relaxation tossed in.
Every year around this time I tend to find myself jumping on a plane heading towards the desert playground. What can I say – I’m a creature of habit. And Vegas is easy to navigate after a few decades of weekend trips.
Spirit Airlines
Not everything is the same this trip. Instead of flying Alaska Air for a half a day or more depending on connections I’m flying only a few hours.
Nice.
I’ve never flown Spirit Airlines, a discount air line. But don’t be fooled by the initial low flight cost or “bare fare” highlighted in brilliant yellow. By the time you add on the cost for seats, bags, water and possibly snacks if you are a bit hungry and happened not to pick something up before boarding, the price quickly equals or surpasses that of the mainstream airlines. I would have preferred to fly Alaska. Sshhhh – don’t tell anybody, but I kinda miss my favorite airline. But for convenience and schedule I landed on Spirit, seat 2F.
Yep, I splurged for the “big seat”. Don’t ask me how much, cuz after awhile I became numb to the rising cost with each button I clicked. On another airline I believe the big seats equate to first class minus the first class service and complimentary adult beverages. But the seats are comfy with enough room for my one “personal” item.
Speaking of which, You are allowed one free personal item, my tote qualified. To be honest I wasn’t quite sure by the description on the website so I stopped by check in and asked a friendly guy working the kiosk who brusquely nodded.
Yes. Score one for packing light.
Side note; Can I ask you something? What is it about the lack of courtesy in this city? I might fall over if I encountered the infamous southern hospitality. I’d be so shocked I’d have to believe I was transported to another planet. My kids reassure me that I’ll eventually get used to it. I dread the day.
AnyHOO.
Welcome to Sin City
Fasten your seat belt and prepare for landing. Welcome to Las Vegas.
Bouchon Bakery
My first stop, even before the spa, was Bouchon Bakery. Can I just say these raspberry filled beignets are worth every sweet, calorie laden bite. I’ve been craving the fruit filled, sugar encrusted delights for the last year. I even tried my hand at making these at home last fall. I used Thomas Kellar’s recipe from the French Laundry cookbook. The homemade beignets turned out pretty good but honestly I prefer the ones I can buy from the bakery.
Treasure Island
TI is a budget friendly hotel hotel with a great location. I stayed here last year and felt that it was worth repeating. We are staying in a delux room with 2 queen beds on the very tippy top of the building – floor 35.
Do you know the difference between being 50 and 25? Yep. Water. After checking in I popped downstairs to buy a case of water. Hydration is key in a desert climate and for stuffy, dry hotel rooms. At least for this lady, who just happens to have a cold from hell and I figured if I drown myself in water the virus might go away. Far away. Oh, why, oh, why does a cold strike just before a trip out for fun??? I got onto the elevator next to a young man carrying a case of beer. The irony was not lost on me.
Sending you love and happiness

Looks like a great time, enjoy!!!
